The Plot

Don Giovanni is the story about a notorious Italian womanizer and scoundrel from the upper class. During his last days, all his attempts to seduce women fail. He seeks distraction in misleading and mocking his former lover who still truly loves him and his former friends who tried to apprehend him. Eventually, he is haunted by the marble statue of the man that he killed after he tried to rape his daughter. The statue implores Don Giovanni to repent...

The Composition

The music of the classical Opera Don Giovanni was composed in 1787 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (German 1756-1791). The Italian libretto was written by Lorenzo Da Ponte. It is based on the legend of Don Juan, a fictional libertine and seducer.

The opera is one of the most performed operas worldwide and is a fruitful subject for writers and philosophers.
